At HSES we are a BYOD school where students are able to bring their own devices for learning. Each grade level is different in how the devices are used. In first grade, we will not be using a device daily but there will be weekly activities. I use the devices for working on projects, researching, building presentations, and playing whole class games. I sometimes like to push out lessons on Nearpod to their devices so the students can interact with me at the same time I am teaching.
Google Classroom, and most of the Google apps are what students will be using throughout their time in Wake County Schools to build their digital portfolios and learn about digital literacy. What I usually suggest to families, if they want to purchase a device for their child, is a Google Chromebook... some are as small as 11 inches and very user friendly for the little ones.
For your student to gain access to all of their apps in their Wake County portal:
1) Go to HSES web page.
2) Scroll down and click Wake ID
3) Login by using 'student', entering their user name (I can give it to you), and password is their lunch number.
4) Their portal will open and you can access all of the tools we will be using this year:
Google Classroom
Google Drive
Dreambox
BrainPop and BrainPop Jr.
Letterland App
Discovery Ed

Student Expectations:
- Devices will be used for educational purposes only. Bringing a personal device to school is a privilege and NOT a right.
- The teacher is in charge of when and how the devices are used. Follow the color codes at all times.
- All recording of students or teachers can only be done with expressed permission of those involved.
- Personal devices should NEVER be used to cyber-bully or invade students’ or teachers’ privacy.
- You are responsible for the security of your own device. Do not touch anyone else’s device
